How many of us work Monday to Friday in jobs we pretty much hate, or at the very least don't find to be at all meaningful, simply because those job positions are stable, and because we're nervous about seeking the therapy that would allow us to take the risks required to adjust course?

It was all the way back in the 19th century that Henry David Thoreau declared that “most men lead lives of quiet desperation,” and there's ample reason to think that that's still largely the case today.

When all is said and done, though, there are some really good reasons to seek online therapy and actually take some risks in life, doing what you find meaningful rather than just going through the motions.

If you don't take mutually advised risks, you may not be able to live with yourself.

Here's an interesting fact to consider: there are inherent risks in trying to orient your life to pursue work that you find meaningful, but there are also risks inherent in taking the “safe path.”

One of those risks, for example, is that you may end up living a miserable life, and then dying full of regret that you didn't at least put in an earnest effort to do things a different way.

Human beings have a pretty remarkable ability to withstand painful and disheartening circumstances in life, as long as they have a higher purpose, and that's exactly what a therapist can help you achieve.

If you allow yourself to live without that purpose, however, you may well find that you're not able to live with yourself, somewhere down the line.

There are now so many opportunities available for exploring different paths.

If you were a medieval peasant, it's safe to say that you wouldn't have had many opportunities in life for entrepreneurial activity, or determining how to structure your life as a whole.

These days, however, there are so many opportunities available for exploring different paths, that it's enough to make your head spin. That's where a therapist can help you sort out the pros and cons to help you make informed decisions.

Want to get involved in social work, but don't have the time to attend college classes in person? Maybe the answer is night classes at a local community college.

Or, maybe you've got a particular idea of how you could make people's lives better, by serving a niche that has hitherto been neglected. Well, you can start your own business in just a matter of days, and get the ball rolling.

You don't have to face these dilemmas alone though—a trained counselor can give you the tools to make strong decisions.

Your problems become more manageable when you've got a strong purpose and reason for getting out of bed in the morning.

No one gets to live a life that's free from trouble, pain, and disappointment. Those things are, unfortunately, just baked into the human condition.

And yet, when you've got a strong purpose, and a powerful motivation for getting out of bed in the morning, the hardships of life become a lot more manageable than they would otherwise be. The goal of a therapist is to put you in that position.

In order to counterbalance the struggles of life, you need some worthwhile goal to pursue. So, set that goal, and get pursuing.
