At eight years old, I told my parents, “I am going to write a novel.” It was 26 pages and in pencil, but I did it. They were not impressed, so I learned that choosing your audience is critical or was it that my audience was too critical? Comedy is my genre. I observe life and find the “hahas,” so I don’t have too many “boohoos.” I received runner-up in a contest with my short story “Walkabout,” and have also self-published children’s books and comedic novels. But I prefer living to write rather than writing to live, so I teach college students and work in public health. Life has been a crazy gig so far in which I have survived two divorces, a wildfire, owning a Hyundai, parenting a teenager and three cats all thanks to my resilience, sense of adventure, ability to tolerate ambiguity and emotional risk-taking. What’s next?
