Americans are busy people. As we add more and more to our “to-do list,” time becomes the enemy standing between us and our accomplishments. That's why technology is constantly evolving to eliminate the everyday hassles that slow you down as a greedy consumer. At MasterCard, we're behind this progress every step of the way.
Introducing the new MasterCard PayPass card. It's quicker, simpler, easier, faster, simpler, and virtually redundant. Why not live life in the express lane, even if it does have just as much traffic as the rest of the highway?
Tap N Go
Just one tap of your MasterCard PayPass card on the PayPass reader at participating locations and you're on your way to going home and relaxing in your easy chair to your favorite primetime FOX reality show over a Big Mac and fries. The PayPass card works just like your traditional MasterCard card, except you'll never do any swiping again. Remember all those fussy card readers? Swipe, swipe, swipe…it was all you could do to get through the payment phase of any consumer transaction in under 15 seconds. Not anymore. PayPass makes the transaction process a breeze. Just hold your card out in front of you face forward or face backward (varies by participating retailer), close your eyes, count to 2, and consider yourself a little further in debt. Fussy PayPass reader? Just do a quick tap dance and you'll be outta there in less than 13 seconds, guaranteed. That's a savings of over 1 second. The days of fishing for coins or waiting for change are over, just like they were with your old MasterCard. But we still would like to emphasize that point because, like your new MasterCard PayPass Card, it's simple and convenient.
Built-in technology
The MasterCard PayPass card has built-in chip and antenna technology, as well as a standard magnetic stripe. That's right, not only can you use your card at new PayPass terminals, you can also use it at old swiping terminals! It's like taking a new technology and making it irrelevant. The card and specially equipped PayPass terminals communicate payment card details using very short range radio waves. Occasionally, your PayPass card and PayPass terminals may hold longer conversations about more interesting subjects though, like golf or tennis. In that case, you may be asked to pull out your MasterCard PayPass card antenna so that it can get better reception during this time.
Safe and secure – just like your traditional card
Your card never leaves your hand – just like your fingers. (Don't worry, when we make a walking card, we'll let you know.) And you still get the same level of security that you've been accustomed to: $0 liability on unauthorized purchases and a personal bodyguard to escort you to your car after mall closing hours. The chip within your MasterCard PayPass card has the same information as that on the magnetic strip of your card, so if you are ever a victim of identity theft, rest assured your identity will be compromised equally on all aspects of your card. And the antenna on your MasterCard PayPass card has the same active ingredient as cancer, so you're still at risk as usual. Current MasterCard and Issuer privacy and confidentiality rules apply as per your current cardholder agreement: no boys past midnight and never tell anyone about the one time we did that thing together.
Also accepted at over 23 million locations worldwide
MasterCard PayPass is a simpler way to pay at select merchants in a dozen or so cities in a handful of countries with a few forward-looking managers willing to invest in an expensive technology that works the same as their old technology except with the capability to accomodate 4 new customers. Now that's priceless.
