I got a legitimate email today (not some anonymous Nigerian man requesting my help transferring millions of dollars in funds from the Ivory Coast) from someone who started his email by addressing me as “Little Court.” That's right, not “Dear Court” or “Court-” or “Court,” or “Dear Webmaster” or “Hello” or “Listen up” or “Yo dude” or “Your royal highness”…..but “LITTLE COURT.”

Honestly, I can't think of a funnier intro than that. It's casual, presumptuous, and belittling all at the same time, yet it's beyond patronizing or insulting! It's just plain ludicrous.

I started reading the three paragraphs that followed (a writer pitching his work to PIC—not even remotely college related I might add) and realized they were coherent, but equally nonsensical. Not to mention they contained not a shred of relevancy to justify the use of “Little Court.”

The email ended abruptly with “Cordially, Edward Eugene Baskett.”

My reply:

Refondfully,

That'll learn 'em.
