Since Nate and I will be doing a playoff email exchange (which both you and he are finding out about right now) I figured it might be good to run down my sports allegiances just so you know where I stand:
Baseball:
Unequivocally Yankees. I started watching baseball in 1996, which incidentally was the their first championship in that string where they won 4 of 5. Which turned into 4 of 6. Then 4 of 7, and is now at 4 of 11.
Shut your stupid face.
Unfortunately, at the time my very favorite baseball player was Derek Jeter. I identified with him; we lean, sexy teen heartthrobs learn quickly how to recognize each other. However, his status as my favorite player led me to fucking hate him. Seriously.
He's still my favorite player, which means I'm far harsher on him than any other player. It's kind of how beating a woman is the only real way of saying “I love you but if you fuck up like that again I might not.”
Who am I kidding? Derek Jeter could give all the Jessica Albas in the world herpes (315 according to Facebook, which means the real number is probably closer to 500) and he would still be my favorite player. Which sucks. I wish I could like Alex Rodriguez in the same way, I really do. Then, my favorite player would be really awesome at baseball. Instead, my fp contributes mostly with opposite field singles.
Football:
I don't have any regional alliances in football; I never particularly identified with either of my home teams, which is probably pretty smart considering the circumstances. And wisdom be damned, I like passing offenses. So right now, I'm pulling for those damned Saints.
Also Devin Hester. He's a speedy little bugger.
Basketball:
I honestly believe that Isiah Thomas could open fire into a crowded orphanage and Dolan would let him continue coaching from prison.
Though he might do a better job.
On a wholly unrelated note, the responses from my last Clist posting weren't very interesting. To make up for it, I'll post at some point the responses to my search for a golddigger, which were both sadder and more compelling.
