<a href="https://www.pointsincase.com/nathan/uploaded_images/earl-733993.jpg"><img style="float:right;cursor:hand;margin:0 0 10px 10px;" alt="" src="https://www.pointsincase.com/nathan/uploaded_images/earl-730514.jpg" border="0" /></a>After seeing the pilot, I wrote a few weeks ago that my new favorite show is “My Name is Earl.” Here are the four main reasons why:<br /><br /><strong>Lowlifes being Lowlifes</strong><br />No TV show had ever accurately portrayed the nature of lowlifes before “Earl” (this is how I am going to refer to the show from now on so all the kids can see how hip hop I am or something). In other shows and movies, lowlifes are always criminal masterminds with tortured pasts, and while that may be true almost none of the time, most lowlifes are like Earl and his friends. They are lazy opportunists who, because they never cared about much, have no problem wasting their lives away until they need enough money to warrant pulling another stunt or running another job (in the criminal world, a stunt is a crime you do alone like selling drugs, and a job is a crime that involves more than one person and/or a con—all knowledge is learning). A true career criminal is a lazy ass, just like Earl.<br /><br /><strong>The Whole Karma Thing</strong><br />I actually learned this around the age of 18, when I gave up certain criminal activities, got into college and decided to live my life the straight and narrow. I used to run with a crew of about seven other people, and in time, all of us straightened up (all before our 20th birthdays). Earl is in his late twenties before he figures out Karma, so he has a lot to atone for. And please note that I atoned for everything I ever did wrong except for stealing ten garbage bags full of cans from a bum in Michigan (10 cents a can in Michigan) and that was only because I never could find the guy from whom I stole. Also, I still have two hockey cards I stole from some kid who moved to Washington D.C. Never could find him either, mainly because I forgot his name. But I did go around and apologize to a lot of people. I even gave some stuff back, did chores and paid money to some of the many I had wronged. All scumbags, when they discover the problem with themselves, have some kind of karma realization (the realization that bad people do bad things and thus, suffer the fate of bad things happening to them). I guess what I’m saying is, there are more people out there that can relate to “Earl” than you probably think.<br /><br /><strong>Jason Lee being Jason Lee</strong><br />I have enjoyed everything Jason Lee has done, acting-wise. And I think he chose this show because it’s a chance for him to finally use a fake accent and do some actual acting, instead of just being essentially a walking one-liner machine. Also, I don’t think he’s good enough to pull off this level of acting in a movie yet, so he made the right call with this project. But what I enjoy most is when he slips up, loses his accent, and causes me to go, “Hey, that’s Jason Lee. I totally forgot he was in this.”<br /><br /><strong>Hot Chicks</strong><br />Need I say more?

Well, last night, while sleeping the sleep of the sleepy, yours truly was awakened by the sound of two vehicles smacking into each other. After the sounds of metal abruptly meeting metal, this is what I heard through my open window.<br /><br />“Fuck man. Watch where you’re going.”<br /><br />“Is that you, Troy?”<br /><br />“Damian? Shit man, how are you?”<br /><br />“Pretty good. Sorry about that, by the way. I’ve had a few.”<br /><br />“Hey man, me too. Good thing we hit each other, huh? That could have been nasty.”<br /><br />They then exchanged insurance information and promised to call each other more often. Oh yeah, and apparently, Troy recently dropped out of college. He plans on going back next semester. And Damian’s driver’s side headlight is busted. This is a problem because he works nights. He’s thinking about having some guy named Dave take a look at it. From what I could gather through my bedroom window, Dave needs the work.<br /><br />You see, this is one of the things I love about life. It started last night, when Hurricane Wilma finally turned off the Yucatan. Actually, that’s not true. It started a few days ago when the idiots in charge of overreacting canceled a South Florida home game (good call, by the way. It was partly cloudy and we barely got rain yesterday). But last night, the hype officially kicked into full fear-inspiring gear. I noticed at about 2 AM on Sunday Morning when I turned on the television and found a slew of giddy meteorologists who, though dead wrong about Wilma’s estimated time of arrival, were still sure that, to quote Uncle Jimbo from “South Park”, “It’s coming right for us!”<br /><br />Now, the odds are 1-3 (that means $1 pays you $3 by the way) that it may hit us, so I have taken step one of my hurricane plan. I have cleaned my place and cleaned out my cooler. Some people would wonder why in the hell one would clean his place before a major storm. Here’s why: when you’re out of power and have no clue when the world will come back to civilization, the last thing you need is a messy place attracting bugs, lizards and rats. Plus, it’s just easier to find shit in the dark if everything is put away. And yes, I learned this the hard way last year.<br /><br />Step 2 is buy ice, Step 3 is buy beer and Step 4 is get cash. I’m not even to step 2 yet.<br /><br />Those of you who don’t live in a part of the world that is prone to hurricanes may not know what it’s like to experience hurricane hype, so what I’m gonna do is, as a tribute to Bill Simmons, NFL football, the makers of Yuengling and the fine people of Tampa, I am gonna keep a running diary of my hype filled day. Here goes.<br /><br />10:29 AM<br />I just got out of the shower and dressed in front of the TV. CBS’s weather woman just promised us hurricane updates every twenty minutes. In case you’re keeping score, the hurricane could hit Monday morning at the earliest. So it’s good we have these updates. Also, the CBS weather woman seems upset that Wilma is only a Category Two and that it seems to be weakening. I swear, weather people really love shitty weather. Anyway, I’m not worrying about ice right now. I think I’ll have my morning Gatorade.<br /><br />10:37<br />Another hurricane rule of mine is as follows: never have a full fridge. Why risk having food that goes bad, right? I did not go grocery shopping this weekend (as is my custom). Here’s one from Tony. “I’ve heard the word Yucatan three hundred times in the last five days. I couldn’t even spell Yucatan on Monday. Now, I can find it on a map. When does a watch become a warning? 8 PM, apparently. Now, if these guys were that good at predicting the future, they’d be gambling a lot of football, not lying to me about the mystical power of 8 PM. Just so you know, the hurricane is 283 miles away right now. For all anyone knows, it could go to Texas. I want that noted. Hey, I think I just noted that.<br /><br />12:34<br />I honestly think that, armed with nothing more than three friends, a case of beer, four cameras and a couch, I could do the CBS pre-game show better than these cardboard chumps.<br /><br />12:52<br />Just stepped outside to get the breath of fresh air not provided by the CBS pre-game show and I noticed something about the neighborhood. It’s dead. There’s no pre-game shows blaring or barbecues cooking or people out walking around and tossing balls and Frisbees. Though it is true that the Giants barely covered against the (surprisingly) well-coached Cowboys and that the Broncos rolled over the Patriots (roughly 5,281 feet above sea level), I am still of the opinion that the Manning-led Giants are not getting enough respect. At home against Shanahan’s stupidity, the Giants should at least give the obligatory 3 points. I’m taking the favorite.<br /><br /><strong>Steelers (+1) over BENGALS</strong><br />As someone who’s having a hard time adapting to this whole successful Bengals team, I have to say that this spread is the crock of all crocks. I mean, look, I’m willing to admit that Carson Palmer is good. I’m willing to admit that the Bengals have a legitimate shot at going to the Super Bowl. I think Bill Cowher is a moron. All signs point to a Bengals victory, which would lead me to pick the Bengals easily if Vegas had decided to favor them by 3 points, or even 7 points, but instead they gave them one stinking point. You see, even Vegas has no faith in the Bengals (and they’re at home). This cannot be a slam dunk, so it follows then that I take the underdog. So that’s what I’m doing.<br /><br /><strong>BROWNS (-2.5) over Lions<br /></strong>Originally, I wasn’t gonna take this one. It really doesn’t make much sense to me. I could see the Lions really stunning the Browns here. The Lions strike me as one frustrated, pissed off team, ready to explode at any moment.
